“I Started with martin in March 21 , now over 3 years ago, with the aim to get fit and drop weight by my 40th birthday in August 21.
Martin was supportive and encouraging all the way . He showed me how to start lifting weights an area of fitness I would never have explored.
My goals changed as we progressed and my confidence grew . I started running alongside doing the weights and really enjoy both . Martin always makes the sessions fun and adapts to individual needs and goals. Martins support with my running has been invaluable seeking advice for me and helping me to gain more knowledge from a very experienced runner (also a client of his).
I went from overweight non runner to loosing 8 stone , being confident with lifting weights and really enjoying it .
In this time, I have trained for and ran 3 marathons including London and Amsterdam . None of this would have been possible without Martins help and constant support.
Katherine’s Training by Martin Sorenson.
I have worked as Katherine’s coach for just over three years now.
Katherine’s initial goal (on first meeting) was simply and in her own words to “do more for her health and well being”, so we started on basic exercises to get her moving better and doing more activities in general which made her feel better too.
It was later decided that Katherine wanted to loose weight.. and she upped the anti by adding more sessions weekly (at one point 5 hours a week; including group sessions) which led to faster results; rapid strength gain, majorly improved body composition and solid overall accountability throughout.
Within the first year Katherine’s hard working ethic had led to loosing 45 kg (just over 7 stone), but she had bigger plans lined up.
Concurrent training
Within a couple of months of working on Katherine’s initial goals, she decided she would like to take up running, her first run was only a few hundred meters.
In addition to her Strength and Conditioning sessions, she joined a local running club which offered support, camaraderie and knowledge from experienced athletes at many different levels.
How training works
As a Strength and Conditioning Specialist it was paramount to consider Katherine’s safety when undertaking a significant overall “volume of training”
But with careful planning, and by using periodisation, we successfully carried on with ALL sessions in a continually progressive manor; leading up to Katherine’s first marathon which was in London.
By the time of this event, she had then lost nearly 9 stone (57 kg), and achieved a veritable “Body Transformation”. And she was still getting ever stronger on her gym sessions (by now an intermediate level lifter).
Katherine has now ran a total of three marathons and is always getting faster and more gainful as an athlete.
This isn’t for everyone though..
I’ve always admired Katherine’s overall tenacious character, consistency and hard working fortitude which has made these fantastic results a reality.
Of cause, she will tell you (humbly) that ANYONE can achieve it.. personally I beg to differ because these kinda results take a special and rare mind set and overall dedication.
What of the future?
Katherine has MANY more gym related (eg.. to perform bodyweight chin ups) and running goals ahead of her; and is still improving her performance regularly.
It’s been a privilege to have been a part of her success and long may it continue.
I believe anything is possible with the correct outlook.
Well done Katherine!!
